Cyprus contributes to the CIESM Hydrochanges program

The Oceanography Center, University of Cyprus, successfully managed the recovery of long time series data from four deep moorings of the CYCOFOS–OCB observing platform, operated in cooperation with its US partner CSnet, International. The arrays were deployed west and southwest of the Eratosthenes seamount in the SE Levantine Basin (Figure 1).

These new data will be precious in filling gaps in the SE Levantine Basin of the CIESM Hydrochanges Program that aims to monitor the T/S changes at the deep regions of the Mediterranean. The four arrays were deployed for a period of 1 to 1.5 years, from 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2009-2012. The data obtained from 500 to 2000 meter depths with a temporal interval of 10 minutes using SBE 37SM CT sensors are shown below (Figure 2).
