CIESM SUB2 cruise, Leg I (6-13 December 2005)

Mohamed Sahabi works as a geoscientist at the Faculty of Sciences El Jadida, Morocco. His research activity focuses on oceanographic geology. Together with the geoscientific team, sharing quite some good moments onboard, he turned his attention to better understand the active geological and tectonic features in the region of the Sardinia-Sicily Channel, the transition zone of the North African chains and the Alps/Apennines by seismic surveying and by high-resolution mapping. In the near future, Mohamed Sahabi also wants to further investigate the Alboran Sea under geological aspects and combine and compare the findings.

Some personal comments and impressions from Mohamed Sahabi

“I am very glad and satisfied having participated, after receiving an invitation of the Director General of CIESM, to Leg1 of the CIESM SUB2 cruise. Besides its multidisciplinary character, this mission involved scientists of different nationalities as well of the northern countries of the Mediterranean as of the southern shore. This gives an excellent example of a north-south cooperation also for working with the data, which should be followed in future by realising other campaigns in other zones, particularly on the southern shore.

I also want to note down: 1) the efficency of the young scientific team under the responsability of Dr. Francesca Budillon; 2) the ambiance and the hospitality onboard the R/V Urania under the commandership of Captain Lubrano Lavadera.

Certainly, the work and the atmosphere could not be better, if the weather conditions allowed ..., but this, this is the job venture!

Thanks for all and to all and maybe we will meet each other again on the occasion of another mission on the southern shore!”
